Assigment 3B

I have now just completed Assignment 3B and what I have learnt in the process of this unit has been invaluable. I began this unit with limited technological knowledge and now my understanding has grown enormously. All the processes used in creating a website and a blog have been new to me and what I have learnt I can utilise practically in my teaching career. I am proud of the end result as it has taken a lot of effort to achieve it. I'm grateful for the learning I have received in this unit.

Assignment 3a is finally finished! My responsibility for the group assignment was completing a narrated power point presentation. I have never used powerpoint but it was much like a Word document. After completing the narrating, I uploaded it to authorStream and then put a link to the Lucky Number 9 home page. The biggest help was the companion website, whenever I was wondering what to do next, I kept referring back to this. I am learning heaps!!! The other 3 group members have done a good job with creating the rest of the educational resource.

Now that I have completed this assignment, I am looking forward to learning so much more by completing the group assignment.

When using Findit to locate references, I found so much information in regards to the topic and this will be extremely useful when I start teaching.

I chose to use Endnote to prepare my references and one of the problems that I encountered was that I was initially using Word Starter instead of Word so the toolbar was not showing up. When I had the problems, it forced me to read all of the information about Endnote and I now feel confident to use Endnote. I will be using Endnote in following assignments as I found it very user friendly in the end. I can't believe that I didn't know that it even existed. The 6 minute video was extremely helpful in using Endnote and I referred back to that several times for assistance.

I have had a number of issues when downloading programmes when doing this assignment and it has taught me to persist and in doing so I have learnt far more than I would of.  I am very determined to do as well as I can in this unit and I am very satisfied that I have fixed the issues that I had with the help of the IT Dept and the assignment is finally done!

This unit has encouraged me to explore the many options available when looking for information for an assignment. At the completion of this unit, I know that I will have far more confidence to source information and navigate the comp;uter far more efficiently. I also know that the knowledge that I gain in this unit will only help me further in the units to follow.

Search Engines
The two search engines that I used the most were Google and the Murdoch library Findit. The Findit site was so user friendly and enabled me to refine my search to make it so easy to find the relevant information. The Findit site gave a helpful summary of the reference material that enabled you to know if the information was going to be relevant.

Assignment Number 2 Research on technology and learning. I chose the topic of physical activity and movement as I would love to get to the end of this degree and work as a physical education teacher in a primary school so I had an interest in it. I will be able to make use of the information I have sourced in this assignment in my intended area of teaching.

Assignment 2 Research Technologies

Looking forward to what I can learn in the next assignment called Research Technologies that I am going to start on the weekend. Early preparation was not possible with assignment 1b due to the birth of our beautiful daughter and my wife being in hospital for the last month and looking after the other three kids was a full time job so with my wife now home I can work towards completing the next assignment early.

Assignment 1b

Over the past 2 weeks, I have learnt so much in this unit. Having not gone to Uni for 20 years, it takes a little bit of time to get up to speed and I know that my learning in this unit will help me in my time at Uni immensely as well as being a big help when I complete my degree and get into the class room.

Reflections!

The use of facebook is an extremely effective and efficient way of getting an invitation out for a particular event. It is also very easy to reply and get an idea of who is able to attend.

Contributing to a Social Network Site

When you receive an invitation to an event on facebook, you can reply to the event and make comments about any further details that may have been left out of the invite. You can see who else will be there and if any details are changed about the event, this can also be viewed on  facebook.

Instructions on how to use Facebook

1. Go to Facebook www.facebook.com
2. I put in my personal details as per the fields
3. I checked privacy account settings which were under the arrow at the top of the screen
4. Checked who has access to my facebook account
    -How you connect
    -Profile and tagging
    -Apps and websites
    -Click on edit settings
5. Public friends and custom
6. Check general account settings to ensure user name was correct
7. Go to create event option top right hand corner
8. Name- Kick the footy at the park
9. Enter the details- Bring the kids and enough to eat and drink and we will see you there

Uni Assignment 1
